Congratulations to the 2005-2006 Scholarship Recipients
Adreane A. Joseph

Adreane Joseph will
graduate from Notre Dame High School this year with a 3.95 grade point average.
During her time at Notre Dame, Adreane excelled in honors Biology, Geometry,
Algebra, English, History and Government. During this year, she also won a
CCS championship on the girl's varsity basketball team. She has served in leadership
position in her school's National Honor Society, California Scholastic Federation,
Amnesty International, and after school tutoring programs. Adreane is the former
president of the Monterey Peninsula NAACP Youth Council. Adreane is a member
of Greater Victory Temple Church in Seaside, where she participates in the
youth auxiliary choir and praise dance team. In the fall, Adreane plans to
attend the University of California at Berkeley where she plans to major in
one of the sciences
Robert Gabriel Stoica

Robert Stoica is 18 years of age and was born in Romania. He is a senior at Carmel High School, class of 2005. During his high school career he has been employed and also volunteered to tutor other students while still participating in numerous school activities earning titles and honors such as Golden State Seal Merit Diploma, Life Member of the California Scholarship federation, Top 100 Students, Bank of America-Plaque winner(math and science), and Student of the Year in Trignometry and Statistics. This fall he will be attending the University of California at Berekely where he will major in Sciences. Robert plans to pursue a career in Aeronautical Industry and his supreme goal is to work for NASA.
Karen Yamilett Gutierrez

Karen Gutierrez is a 2005 graduate of Seaside High School. While at Seaside High, she has been involved in National Honor Society, NCBI, Mock Trail, Cross Country, Track, Drama and French club. She ahs volunteered woth the YWCA of Monterey County since 2002 and continues to be active in empowering women and fighting different forms of violence. This fall she will be attending the University of California at Berekely where she will major in Chemistry.
Since 1980, the Monterey Chapter of the National Naval Officers Association (NNOA), in partnership with the Naval Postgraduate School, has made a continuing contribution to the educational development of youth residing on the Monterey Peninsula. This contribution involves a number of highly successful programs, including; youth mentoring, academic tutoring, and the annual awarding of financial scholarships to college bound high school seniors.
Eligibility Requirements : The recipient must be a Monterey Peninsula high school senior entering an accredited college or university during the 2006-2007 academic calendar year. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scare (or equivalent). Applicants must submit completed packages to the address listed below no later than April 6, 2006. Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than May 2, 2006.
Details of Award : This award aims to grant an ethnic-based scholarship to a student entering college as a freshman during the 2006-2007 academic year. No additional award is provided during any subsequent college year. The recipient will be selected and announced in May 2006. To claim the award, the recipient must present proof of enrollment (along with a course schedule) at an accredited college or university.
Award Amount: From $500 to $1,500 (based on determination of financial need).
Package Requirements : Eligible students are required to submit the following:
Ø A completed application
Ø An official high school transcript (with school's official seal).
Ø Letter(s) of recommendation from an individual who knows the applicant, such as a school official (principal, guidance counselor, coach, etc…) or an official from an organization to which the applicant belongs. This letter should address the applicant's potential academic performance at the collegiate level. It should also state the applicant's relationship to the official and note any of the applicant's noteworthy/significant accomplishments, of which the official is personally aware.
Ø Counselor/Teacher Evaluation Form(s)
Ø A typed 100 to 300-word essay discussing the student's career goals, why he/she should receive the scholarship, and how he/she would use the scholarship.
Ø A current photograph (3” x 5” minimum; photos will not be returned).
Failure to submit ALL requested information will result in disqualification. Students submitting incomplete packages will be notified in writing of disqualification.
